The mission of the Duluth Area Family YMCA is to put the principles of honesty, respect, caring, and responsibility into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. Our Vision is to build strong kids, strong families, strong communities.
Participate in this Hike the Hill challenge to keep yourself moving over the next month! Hike the Hill once, or many times, to support the Downtown Duluth Y just by staying active and healthy together.
At the Y, we’re about bringing people together and with HIKE THE HILL you and your family can come together to complete this challenge. Register as an individual and challenge yourself to reach the summit, or take your little ones on your trek with you and register your family as a Duo, Trio, or Trail family. The most important part is that you go together! With your registration you will receive a Winter Warm Up Finisher Mug complete with hot chocolate from Mike & Jen’s Cocoa Mix!
Not in Duluth? No problem, find your own hill and climb it. Hills come in many shapes and sizes so this year we’re extending the challenge to include any form of activity you’re able to do. Kilter makes that easy: do something active for 30 minutes a day, earn points, compete against your friends and other participants – and most of all – have fun together! In this event, join us in support of the Y whether you hike, walk, do yoga, swim, meditate, volunteer, weightlift, journal, or do any other healthy activity that makes you feel good, earn points daily for your personal score, and help us kick off fall in Duluth on the right foot (then left foot, then right foot).
This event is OPEN to the public. Invite your friends, family, and colleagues to join you in your pursuit to make a positive impact on the health and wellness of the Duluth community. Work together to fundraise for Y scholarships and keep one another motivated to be healthy and active all month long!

Entry Fees: With every entry you will receive a Winter Warm Up Mug!
$30 Solo hike (1 hiker = 1 mug)
$55 Family Duo hike (2 hikers = 2 mugs)
$80 Family Trio hike (3 hikers = 3 mugs)
$100 Trail Family Hike (a family of 4 or more = 4 mugs)
Duo, Trio and Trail Families will compete together via one Kilter family account. Please choose the registration tier that most fits your family. If you want to log your activities separately please have each individual register for a solo hike utilizing their own device.
*100% of your entry fee goes directly to support the Downtown Duluth YMCA in this event!

3) Choose Sign In (top right)
4) Go to the Events tab > My Events (you're already registered!)
5) Complete your profile and connect your devices
6) Share! Don’t forget to tell everyone you’ve ever met that you’re participating in this event by posting to social media and sending e-mails.
How to fundraise:
1. Go to the Charities tab of the event in the app and click FUNDRAISE. Choose any amount you want to contribute!
2. Use the peer-to-peer function and ask your friends or family to support your team and your own fitness goals by pledging to donate on your behalf! Click FUNDRAISE from the event in the app to get started!
How to Track Activities:
1) Connected Apps & Devices - visit your Profile and go to Connected Devices. Use Apple Health, Fitbit, Garmin, Strava, or UnderArmour Record (MapMyRun) to seamlessly track your daily activities! This is the easiest way to keep track of your activities and earn points.
3) Manually Record Activities - Not living that gym life? No problem! Click the (+) icon from your dashboard to open the Manual Entry form. Enter your activity of 30+ minutes within 48 hours of completing your activity to earn points. See here for more info.
3) Check into Gyms & Fitness studios - click the (+) icon from your dashboard to open the gym check in function. When you're within a 400 ft radius of your gym, you'll be able to check in! Gym not there? Click the Add Gym button and send us your gym name and address. It will be added within 48 hours. *Note - The Downtown Duluth YMCA encourages safe fitness and activity. Earn up to 300 points per day for your score by completing one of the below activities. Earn 100 points per activity. Activities may be tracked through connected devices (see Profile to connect to devices), gym checks ins, and manual entries.
Connected Devices
Connect to Apple Health, Fitbit, Garmin, Strava, MapMyRun, or Google Fit. From your Profile, click Connected Devices. Connect to your desired tracker(s). Data should come into Kilter automatically.
Gym Check Ins
From the Dashboard, click on the (+) and select Gym Check In. When you are within a quarter mile radius, your gym will show up on the In Range tab. Click check in. If your gym is not available, click Add Gym to request.
Manual Entries
From the Dashboard, click on the (+) and select Manual Entry. Choose the tile for your activity. Manual entries must be added within 48 hours of activity and must be greater than 30 minutes in duration to award points. May not be combined with other daily activities.
Streak Bonuses
Every 5 days in a row = +100 pts
Wednesdays = Go the extra mile!
Earn +25 point bonus for one of the following. Go the extra mile bonuses are not awarded for Manual Entries.
