April Kade 8k - Spring Into Shape
Start: March 15th, 2021 | End: April 11th, 2021
Online registration is now closed! To participate, please download a waiver below and pay at the race on Saturday, April 11th.
Awesome April Kade was a RUNNER. The wife, the mother, the daycare owner. She was boisterous and joyful. She was loud and proud, and she was my best friend. She was taken from us unexpectedly in September, 2018. April taught so many of us how to run happy, and we’d like to share that uplifting, soul hugging experience through the April Kade 8K on April 10, 2021! The race is from 10am - 12pm with a Virtual Option. All participants will receive a shirt, medal, bib, and something extra in their packet, depending on your level of registration. Participants more than 100 miles away may choose to have their packet mailed free of charge. Thank you for considering this amazing opportunity!
In this virtual event leading up to race day, join us in support of this mission whether you walk, do yoga, meditate, volunteer, journal, or do any other healthy activity that makes you feel good, earn points daily for your personal score and help us kick off the year on the right foot (then left foot, then right foot).
All proceeds go to the Awesome April Scholarship Fund, available through the Saginaw Community Foundation. This scholarship will annually benefit two graduating seniors from Freeland High School pursuing further education via college, university, trade school, etc., first awarded in 2020 to Caitlin Scileppi and Robert French for $500 each. Donations beyond race registration would be greatly appreciated. Please message me for now. A new link for donations will be available soon.
Please download and fill out your waivers and bring them with you to the race on April 11th. If you are under 18 or bringing a child, please also fill out the youth waiver.

There will be 200+ participants with no cap walking and running the race, along with numerous friends, family members and volunteers at the start and aid stations. This is an Out-And-Back 8K, sanctioned by the USATF, starting from the Freeland Sports Zone in Freeland MI. Walkers and runners will enjoy starting on the newly paved trail with porta-potty's, refreshments, and abundant high- fives. Enjoyable decorations will be along the way, and aid stations will be available every half mile-ish with many of April's favorite foods, drinks, and other surprises. (Hint, hint fire pits, pizza, cots for people to rest or take a nap, music, dancing, various aid/food stations with things like salted potatoes, cosmic brownies, Eudici’s Pizza, and Dr Pepper and more!)
This race is an 8K because April considered a 5K a warm-up for races. She encouraged all people to run as far as they could, even if it was to the mailbox. However, she did not enjoy the 5K distance for races, and so we honor that.
